Tickets | One Ticket, Any Train (*)
Any ticket may be used on any Hartford Line train between Springfield and New Haven including intermediate stations.(*)
This means that Amtrak tickets will be accepted on CTrail trains and CTrail Hartford Line tickets will be accepted on Amtrak trains — except the Vermonter (Amtrak trains 54, 55, 56, and 57).
Hartford Line tickets can be purchased from the CTrail ticket vending machines located at each each station.
At Springfield Union Station the CTrail ticket machines are currently located at the north end of the concourse near the main waiting room.
(*) A note about Amtrak-issued tickets
If you are traveling between Springfield and New Haven on the Hartford Line — if possible, we recommend that you purchase your ticket from a CTrail ticket vending machine — not from Amtrak.
An Amtrak-issued ticket is valid for travel on any CTrail train but it can only be used for travel on the specific Amtrak train listed on the ticket. A CTrail-issued ticket is valid for travel on *all* CTrail and all Amtrak trains on the Hartford Line.
Also, some tickets purchased from Amtrak for travel between Springfield and New Haven will be more expensive than tickets purchased from a CTrail ticket machine. In particular — all Discount/Senior and Child tickets.
One-way tickets may also be purchased onboard a CTrail Hartford Line train with a payment of a $3 surcharge. The surcharge is waived for seniors and people with disabilities.
For passengers transferring from the Hartford Line to Metro-North in New Haven, there is no need to enter the station to buy a Metro-North ticket — you can purchase your ticket for onward travel on Metro-North from any CTrail ticket machine.
CTrail-issued tickets are valid for 60 days.
