Homepage image

This page provides an overview of the header images used on the homepage of the Trains In The Valley website.

Creating an image for the header is difficult. The dimensions need to be 1000 x 200 pixels, which is an odd size.

The other consideration is that image must be framed to allow for our logo to appear in the center of the header image.

The rail line that cuts through this image is the MassDOT-owned Connecticut River Main Line. On the far left side of the image is a private crossing that allows the owner of the property to access their property on either side of the tracks.

This private crossing was first established in the 1800s and the right to cross the rail line here is part of the deed for this piece of land.

Near where the bike underpass is today | Northampton, MA | October 15, 2016

This is the northbound Amtrak Vermonter on a fall afternoon in Northampton. The surveyor’s stakes shown in the image are for the bike/pedestrian underpass that was constructed at this location between 2016 and 2017.

This image was the header image from October 2016 until January 1, 2022 — which was way to long.

Going forward we plan to post at least one new header image for each season.
