Want to get to The Big E without the drive? Take the train!

From the south you can take a Hartford Line train from New Haven, Wallingford, Meriden, Berlin, Hartford, Windsor, or Windsor Locks.

Easy connections are also available between the Hartford Line and Metro-North’s New Haven Line, as well as CTDOT’s Shore Line East service, at New Haven Union Station.

Weekend Shuttle Bus to/from The Big E

Free weekend shuttle bus service between Springfield Union Station and The Big E is being provided this year.

The service will be provided on the weekends of September 15/16, 22/23 and 29/30.

 

At Springfield Union Station —  Passengers should proceed to the Pick-Up/Drop-Off area on the Frank B. Murry Street side of the station where the shuttle buses will be waiting.

At The Big E — the shuttle Pick-Up and Drop-Off location is at the Transportation Center, which is located behind the Avenue of the States buildings.

Please note that the King Ward motor coaches that are being used for this service are wheelchair accessible.

Still on the fence about taking the train? Consider these points —

  • Why not let someone else do the driving this year?
  • The cost to drive your car to The Big E is more than just gas. As example, if you were to drive 50 miles each way the full cost could be estimated to be about $55 (100 miles x $0.545/mile [the 2018 IRS standard mileage rate for use of a personal vehicle]. Taking the train from Meriden (an equal distance) would cost you $18.50 per adult and just $2/child (round-trip).  Of course, this example does not apply to every situation — and it does not account for time spent in traffic trying to get to (or out of) The Big E.
  • The Big E shuttle buses access the fair grounds via a secret back entrance, which bypasses most of the traffic on Memorial Avenue!

PVTA Bus Service to/from The Big E

You can also get to The Big E on weekdays and on the weekend by taking the PVTA R14 Bus, which operates hourly between Springfield Union Station and the Exposition stop on Memorial Drive.

Note | Keep in mind that the Hartford Line service includes all Amtrak Shuttle and Northeast Regional trains between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield. The only train that is not part of the Hartford Line service is Amtrak’s Vermonter.

 

When you arrive in Springfield

Proceed down the stairs to the concourse level.

Turn Left and follow the passageway to the main waiting room and bus terminal.

A PVTA bus ticket may be purchased in the PVTA Waiting Area or on the bus, with exact change.

The one-way adult fare is $1.50 or $0.75 if you are over 60 years of age.

The PVTA operates hourly service between Union Station and The Big E on the R14 Route which departs from Bay 14.
