December 29, 2014
After MassDOT’s purchase and major rebuild of Springfield-Greenfield Corridor, Amtrak re-routed Springfield-Brattleboro trains
from Springfield-Palmer-Amherst-Brattleboro to Springfield-Holyoke-Northampton-Greenfield-Brattleboro with new stations at Holyoke, Northampton, and Greenfield.
June 24, 2017
Springfield Redevelopment Authority opened restored Springfield Union Station after 40 years as multimodal train-bus-bike transportation center.
June 16, 2018
Connecticut Department of Transportation opened Hartford Line (New Haven-Springfield Corridor), which included expanded Amtrak Regional and CTrail commuter trains with low, unified fares and transfer compatibility between Amtrak (except Vermonter) and CTrail trains.
2019
June 10, 2019
Amtrak returned to Springfield Union Station Concourse, with other transportation services: PVTA, Peter Pan, and Greyhound buses.
August 30, 2019
Amtrak started two, daily, roundtrip, “Valley Flyer” trains as two-year, experimental service required to reach 24,000 riders/year to be made permanent.
2020
January 25, 2020
Amtrak opened ADA-compliant Platform C, elevator, and stairs.
2022
June 2, 2022
The US DOT announced approval of MassDOT grant to re-configure Springfield Union Station rail yard to reduce layover times at station.
Oct 28, 2022
MassDOT announced that Amtrak’s Valley Flyer will be permanent.
