The Hartford Line is a regional passenger rail service between Springfield, MA and New Haven, CT with intermediate stops in Wallingford, Meriden, Berlin, Hartford, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.

Any ticket (Amtrak or CTrail) may be used on any Hartford Line train between Springfield and New Haven including intermediate stations.

(*) If you’re continuing your trip on a New Haven Line train (operated by Metro-North), a family fare is available for up to four children ages 5-11 may ride for $1 when traveling with a fare paying adult. The Family fare is not valid on inbound New Haven Line morning peak trains. Children under 5 years of age travel free. During “Peak travel” the child fare is 50% of adult fare.

Weekly, 10-trip, and Monthly tickets are also available.

Tickets

Either a CTrail or Amtrak-issued ticket may be used on any Hartford Line train between Springfield and New Haven.

This means that Amtrak-issued tickets are accepted on CTrail-operated Hartford Line trains and CTrail-issued tickets are accepted on Amtrak-operated Hartford Line trains.

Where to purchase a ticket

  • On a mobile device using either the CTrail eTix App or the Amtrak Mobile App
  • At a CTrail ticket vending machine at the station
  • On the Amtrak website
  • At the Amtrak ticket office inside Springfield Union Station
  • On the telephone, from Amtrak, by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL

Tickets may also be purchased onboard any CTrail-operated Hartford Line train but please note that they may not be purchased onboard an Amtrak-operated Hartford Line train.

Special notes about tickets

Some tickets purchased from Amtrak for travel on the Hartford Line are more expensive than tickets purchased from the CTrail eTix App or a CTrail ticket machine. In particular — all Discount/Senior and Child tickets.

CTrail tickets are not valid on the Vermonter (train numbers 54, 55, 56, an 57).

You must purchase a ticket before boarding an Amtrak train.

Transferring to Metro-North in New Haven?

There is no need to enter the station in New Haven to buy a Metro-North ticket. You can purchase your ticket for onward travel on Metro-North from the CTrail eTix App of from a CTrail ticket machine at the start of your trip.

Passengers transferring can also purchase their Metro-North ticket on-board the connecting train with cash or a credit card without paying the on-board surcharge. To avoid the on-board surcharge, passengers must show the Metro-North conductor their CTrail or Amtrak ticket before purchasing their Metro-North ticket.

Traveling from Springfield

Tickets | the CTrail Hartford Line ticket vending machines are located at the north end of the station concourse near the Amtrak ticket office.

Local and Regional Bus Connections | The Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA), Greyhound, and Peter Pan Bus Lines provide frequent service to (and from) Springfield Union Station.

Parking | is available in the Union Station Garage at 1755 Main St, Springfield. Other parking options are also available.

Traveling from Windsor Locks, CT

Windsor Lock station | August 24, 2019

Windsor Locks station is located at the corner of South Main Street and Stanton Road. [map]

The station is about 14 miles south of Springfield and is right off Interstate 91 at Exit 42.

Tickets | Hartford Line tickets from the CTrail ticket vending machine adjacent to the station platform.

Parking | Free parking is available in the surface lot adjacent to the station.
